Youth Summit 2024
This year’s Youth Summit focused on important and timely topics like Individual Inclusivity, Youth & the Future, Community Engagement, and Healthy Puketāpapa. These themes were carefully selected to build on discussions from previous years and address issues that directly affect the community. The summit was designed to encourage local youth to think critically about the world around them and explore how they can make a positive impact. The goal was to spark important conversations and inspire action on issues that matter to everyone, creating a space where young voices could be heard and valued.
One of the most exciting parts of the summit was the collaboration between students from Lynfield College, Marcellin College, and Mount Roskill Grammar School. Coming together in one shared space allowed students from different backgrounds and schools to connect in a way that wouldn’t usually happen. It was a unique chance for everyone to learn from one another, exchange ideas, and work together on solutions to local challenges. The event encouraged students to step outside of their usual circles, engage with new perspectives, and build friendships with peers they might not have otherwise met.
Throughout the day, students took part in a variety of group activities, workshops, and community discussions that pushed them to think creatively and engage deeply with the topics at hand. Whether they were working together to solve problems, sharing their thoughts in small groups, or taking part in hands-on projects, everyone contributed their energy and creativity. The event was filled with excitement and passion, as young people discussed the future they want to see and brainstormed ways to create positive change in their community.
It was a rewarding experience not only for the knowledge gained but also for the connections made. The summit helped build teamwork, leadership skills, and gave everyone a sense of shared purpose. By the end of the event, it was clear that the students had not only learned from the experience but were also inspired to take action in their own lives. The event left a lasting impression, and it was exciting to see how these young people, united by common goals, are ready to step up as the future leaders of their community.
